MY TRANSPORT HISTORY

Bicycles;

5 Speed Racer, a "chopper" style bike, a home made BMX "Cruiser" (forerunner to mountain bikes), Raleigh Grifter, 'Chopper' style bike with steering wheel instead of Handlebars, Chrome Alloy framed BMX

Cars - ;

Renault 12 Estate (1978'ish reg).  Was given to me by my dad about 1989.  1 of the cylinders was duff.  We took it over and left it at the garages behind my mate Marks parents house in Aylesbury.  The intention was to repair it ready for when I passed my car test...  Unfortunately it took longer than expected to pass my test and the car seized up and had to be towed away....

'The 3 Wheeler Years'.
I had a Reliant Robin Saloon (x 2).  One was white, the other yellow, A yellow Reliant Robin Van.  A beige Reliant Regal.
These were all "emergency cars", used when my current bike wasn't available for some reason (I didn't have a full car licence at the time so it had to be a 3-Wheeler)
Good fun though, and not as bad as people make out, I had great times in them.
Reliant Regal (with the robot stuck on it) and my girlfriend (at that time) Paula

Austin Rover Princess 1.7HL (1979)-redish/brown.  I got mine in 1990, my first proper car after passing my test, a weird brown colour, very comfy and spacious though.  It eventually wore out the engine/gearbox seals and seemed to rust everywhere that there was something made of metal...
Same model as my car, mine was brown

Ford Capri 1.6L (about a 1981 reg I think)-white.  Bought this for about £700 sometime around  1990/1991 after I sold the Suzuki GSX550 for £900 to a shop in Chesham.  Took it around north Wales and Devon, totally caned it everywhere...   Turned to rust, was stripped and sent to ASM in Aylesbury.

Holiday in North Wales, my 1st Ford Capri and my girlfriend (at that time) Paula

Ford Capri 1.6GL (1979)-blue.  Got this after the first Capri rusted out.  Eventually  converted it to a 2 litre.   Think it cost about £500.  I cant remember what happened to it.......  I know the front end turned to powder..... Nope, no idea where it went, but I do know it went away to make room for..........

Ford Capri 2.3 V6 Ghia (V Reg')-gold.  Bought this from my manager at ST Europe (Tim Woolford) sometime about 1991/1992.  Paid £800 for it.  Worth it!  It was a 2.0 auto which had been lowered/uprated, had 5 speed Sierra manual gearbox fitted, straight through "cherry bomb" exhaust - sounded sweet!  Though I was always being chatted to by the police up in Aylesbury town centre...  :-(

Ford Sierra 1.8GL (1987-E540 FLF)-red.  Bought in 1992 for 3K from a dealer in Slough...  A total rip-off.   The camshaft was knackered, after a few months the paint faded on the tailgate to show that it was either very old or from another car, the engine block had a crack in it, the front chassis was slightly twisted, the wheel bearings went.......  True mileage appeared to be in the hundred thousand area...  A nightmare car!    A bad experience only made slightly better by the fact that I lowered and uprated it, messed about with the engine and absolutely thrashed it everywhere...   Sold it for £300 in sometime around or after 1997.

Ford Granada 2.3GL (1979)-blue, Bought about 1994/95 for 400 notes.  Got this to get me around when the Sierra was off the road while I did the engine - again...    This was a big comfy motor, shame the auto-gearbox went..  Then the power steering rack..........   Would have liked to have kept it, was very, very comfy - like a sofa.

Ford Capri 1.6GL (1981), gun metal grey/black.  My last Capri.
Got this from Steve Comer who I worked with at Sales Technologies.   I Ran it around for a while until the road-tax ran out then sold it to Steve Marriott.  He did some welding, resprayed it and put it back on the road.  No idea where it is now though.   Will I ever get another Capri?   I hope so...  Not as main transport but just for fond 'boy-racer' memories.  I'd like a fully over the top body-kitted 2.8i just for weekend cruises.  Will probably never happen but there's no harm having ambitions is there?    :-)

Vauxhall Carlton 2.0CDi (1990-G598 CPH)-dark blue.  Bought this from my employer as part of my redundancy package in 1995.  LOVELY CAR!   Only cost £3,850. Finally Sold it around 1998 after the rear electric windows had stopped, a big rust patch had appeared in the rear arches, oh and the auto-gearbox seals were melted!    Still regret selling it though.
My (1st and best) lovely Vauxhall Carlton

Austin Maestro 1.6HL; (1986)-beige.  Given to me for free during 1997/98.  Ran it for a few months before the steering and suspension fell apart.
The Austin Maestro

Audio Coupe 2.2 (A reg) - Red.
Bought this from my brother for £150.  Had a new clutch fitted, fitted new wheel bearings, rear springs and dampers.
Ran it flat-out almost everywhere until the valve seals went splat and it started puffing out more smoke than Thomas the tank engine.
A great fun car though and I would definitely have another if it came at the right price.

Jaguar XJ40 3.6 Sovereign (1987, D670 SXK)-dark blue.    What can I say...   Saw it,  bought it, ran out of money running it.  It rusted badly (inner and outer structure), steering pump failure, rear suspension collapsed, no money left for welding and repairs......... Bye bye Jaguar.......
My beautiful Jaguar XJ40 3.5 Sovereign

Vauxhall Carlton 2.0CDX (1989).  Lowered/uprated suspension, big wide low profile wheels/tyres and a GSi bodykit....   Looks the biz!
Unfortunately at 145,000 miles the engine has just started to smoke.
2nd Carlton

NOTE TO MYSELF - MUST STOP BUYING CHEAPY CHEAP CARS!!!

* UPDATE : Do I never learn?    ;-)

October 2001 - Volvo 740 GL (1989)-silver. (Yes, a Volvo!)

£400, 6 months tax & mot.  Not great to look at but runs okay and very comfortable to drive to work and back each day along the M1.

Needs exhaust repair and service.

Motorcycles;

Puch Maxi.  Rubbish, seized, given back to person it was bought from.

Suzuki Fz50 moped.  Also useless and already semi seized, returned to owner.
Suzuki Fz50 - flypast and salute
Suzuki Fz50 and lanky rider...

Yamaha DT50; only £125 bought from a mate at work (ACG-Ian Thompson). Great fun, first real bike on the road.  However  reality soon made me realise it was tiny, slow and that push-bikes could overtake me, (its top speed varied between 15 and 30 mph).   The engine finally seized up after a few months cause previous owner had already seized it 5 times and hadn't told me!
Finaly sold at local auction for about £60, (to a vicar I was told).   :-)

Suzuki GP100 (B892GRP), bought new in 1986 for about £800 from a dealer in Buckingham (now gone).  Passed my test on it in 1987.  PX'd it for the GPz 305 at Street Machine in Aylesbury.
Brand new Suzuki GP100

Kawazaki GPz305 (D633 RFC).  Black, fast and my first proper bike after my test.   Quick summary, crashed it 3 times, 3rd time wrote it off.  None of the accidents my fault.
Brand new Kawasaki GPz305
Slightly bashed, Kawasaki GPz305, christmas 1987

Puch Maxi; bought for when the last and final Reliant Robin engine  went pop!  Ran for a few months commuting 28 miles across country each day.  Biggest problem, chain fell off a lot.  Pedals fell off to, made starting it interesting.  Brilliant mega cheap transport though... Just have to ignore the constant laughing from anyone else around.

Honda CX500 (T or V Reg), bought for £600.  Great bike, very comfy, great for touring as it had a HUGE polaris fairing and a rear top-box that could fit the titanic in it...   Went all round the UK on it.  It never let me down when out on the road and was always enjoyable and comfortable to ride.    Finally sold for £65 after the alternator and Camchain failed at the same time.
Honda CX500 and my girlfriend (at that time) Paula

Suzuki GSX550E (C555 WDU), bought for £1800 from Carnells when they were at Stacey Bushes in MK.   Lovely bike (despite Carnells disgraceful after sales service at the time).
I did have to replace the alternator and 4 of the gearbox ratios...    Eventually sold it to the original "On Yer Bike" in Aylesbury (Cambridge Street) for £900.  By that time it'd been through a couple of winters, the discs were cracking most of the cheapy engine alloy bolt threads were sheared....  Great bike, comfortable and fast enough for me.  But it had to go.....  Bought my first Capri with the cash....   Big regret about getting rid of it actually, it really was a good under-rated bike - and quicker than GPz600s too!....
The Suzuki GSX500ES in North Wales and my girlfriend (at that time) Paula

Honda CBR1100 Blackbird (S reg); about 9 years after the GSX, I get this huge mad monster with only 3500km on the clock for only 5k from StreetFighter motocycles in Uxbridge!      136bhp at the rear wheel, and a possible 176mph top whack!...  YEEEEHAAAAAAA - I'M BAAAAAAAAAACK!!!

* Update - October 2001 - Now has 32,000km on it.  Still running great.
